Introduction to AbleSail Okanagan
AbleSail Okanagan introduces people with disabilities and age-related issues to the joys of sailing on our beautiful Okanagan Lake. Operated from the Kelowna Yacht Club, it’s a wonderful new addition to the PIMBC program offering.
Our programs include sailing for the fun of it, sailing to learn to Sail Canada standards and for the more adventurous: we offer the opportunity to learn to race and more.
Sailing season 2024: From June 1 to August 31
Sails are 60 minutes on the water with transition time on either side.

What We Offer Our Sailors
Companionship
All sailors will be accompanied by a qualified instructor or an experienced volunteer until they reach the point where they are confident and capable to sail on their own. At that point, they can invite a friend or family member to go with them.
Sailing Lessons
We offer sailing lessons. Sailors have the option to obtain the “solo sailor” certification from the Disabled Sailing Association – Kelowna Yacht Club (DSA-KYC) which allows you to take the boat out alone or with a friend.
Racing Opportunities
For just the usual per sail fee we are continuing to host racing regattas. Depending on demand we will set up one or two afternoons and possibly an evening for these races. The three Martin 16s boats will take part in this race. As part of this exciting event ASO invites experienced racers from the Kelowna Yacht Club (KYC) fleet for coaching sessions. A race committee boat will be set up to do proper starts and finishes.
Finally, we continue to participate in the Commodore’s Cup sailing regatta at Kelowna Yacht Club in August in the Martin 16s.
Membership
Annual Membership: $10
- Not all members sail but have an overall interest in ASO
- You do not need to be a member of ASO to sail
- If you are sailing as a non-member: your first sail will cost $10 and any following sail will cost $20 per sail
