Who We Are:
Apex Adaptive Snow Sports is a People In Motion program that offers adaptive skiing and recreational sports opportunities at Apex Mountain Resort for individuals with physical, cognitive, and sensory challenges. Our program consists of a team of certified volunteer instructors trained to be innovative and creative in adapting teaching methods for our students. Whether our students are stand-up skiers or sit skiers, we are prepared to “see the ability” and adapt to their needs.
Program Information:
The Apex Adaptive Snow Sports program will run from the second week of January through the end of March, offering sessions on Sundays only for this season. Participants must register with BC Adaptive Snowsports (BCAS) and People in Motion (PIM) for insurance and discounted lift passes.
Our program offers instruction suited to each participant’s needs. We are all certified Adaptive Ski Instructors, and we are all volunteers! The lessons are either 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 p.m. or 1:00 p.m.- 3:00 p.m. We have sessions running Sundays only at Apex.
Each lesson is customized to each student’s needs, though the typical structure is 2 instructors-to-1 student.
Parents/Caregivers are responsible for getting participants to the hill and being at the village centre meeting place for the start of their lesson, dressed and ready to ski. We do not provide skis or boots, but these can be rented at the Apex rental shop on the hill. If a bit of assistance with getting the skis and boots on is needed at the start, that can be accommodated. If a sit-ski is needed, we provide the sit-ski. We do not have helmets and goggles to lend, so students must bring their own.
The cost to register with our Adaptive Snow Sports program is $62.00 for the season, which includes the $10.00 (PIM) membership.
Once you have emailed the program to ensure availability, then you will select BC AND THEN APEX as your club! Please ensure it says APEX at the top of the screen. You will then be able to set up your profile, pay for your memberships, and use this login to view your lesson calendar once you have been accepted.
In addition to those membership costs, you will need to purchase your lift ticket and equipment rental (if required).
Program Information:
Session fees – $20.00 per session, up to 5 sessions throughout the season
(The Total Annual cost excludes lift tickets and equipment rental.) However, Apex Mountain Resort has generously offered registered participants a 50% discount on lift Tickets and 25% off Equipment Rentals.
* Students using a sit-ski must weigh less than 160lbs for safety reasons (Safe lifting/Equipment Failure)
